BETHESDA, Md. – The Defense Security Service recognized six Lockheed Martin sites – including the customer support services facility in Middletown – with its annual James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Awards.
The Cogswell award, which was presented at the annual National Classification Management Society training seminar, is considered the most prestigious honor that can be bestowed to a cleared industry, according to a release announcing the award.

Qualifying criteria include establishing and maintaining a security program that goes above and beyond the minimal national safety requirements and providing leadership to other facilities in order to set standards for security.
“With less than one percent of eligible facilities receiving this recognition, these awards are a tremendous honor for the Corporation’s security professionals who work tirelessly to protect our people, facilities, intellectual property and classified information systems,” Bob Trono, Lockheed Martin’s chief security officer, said in prepared remarks.
“It’s a reflection of our relentless focus on continuous improvement in our security procedures that play such a critical role in our ability to support our military, intelligence community and other government customers,” added Trono.
Lockheed Martin’s Customer Support Services Facility in Middletown has been awarded five consecutive “Superior” ratings from the DDS.
The following field sites – along with the main Lockheed office in Bethesda, Md. – were recognized with the Cogwell award:
- Information Systems & Global Solutions, IS&GS-Defense, Colorado Springs, Colo.
- Lockheed Martin Global Training and Logistics (GTL), Orlando, Fla.
- Mission Systems and Sensors Facility, Manassas, Va.
- Mission Systems and Sensors Facility, Syracuse, N.Y.
