EB gets $61.5M for Virginia-class sub work, upgrades

Groton, Conn.-based Electric Boat Corp., a division of General Dynamics, has been awarded $61.5 million to support an earlier contract to engineer and build Virginia-class submarines, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

The contract provides funds to maintain and update Virginia-Class designs and engineering data. Also, the money will support efforts to install new technology in the submarines during construction and in the post-shakedown availability period.
Under the contract, 94 percent of the work will be performed in Groton, 5 percent in Quonset and 1 percent in Newport. The work is expected to be completed by September 2007.
