EMC cuts jobs

HOPKINTON, MASS. — EMC, a data storage company with facilities in Franklin, Hopkinton, Milford, and Westboro, Mass., cut several hundred jobs last week, according to reports.

The layoffs represent less than 3 percent of the company’s total workforce, reports said. According to EMC’s web site, last updated in January, the company employs 23,400 people worldwide, including 8,500 in Massachusetts. Details on what jobs were affected were not disclosed.

According to reports, EMC said the job cuts were part of an annual review process by department heads, based soley on individual performance and not a reflection of a business downturn. The company plans to add 7,000 people to its workforce and anticipates a 35 percent increase in revenues this year, said EMC spokesman Mark Frederickson.
