Energy Central, the leading Internet portal site for electric power professionals and winner of the “Best Energy Portal” award by Microsoft in 1999, has taken every page of every FORM 1 filed with FERC since 1995 and put it into an easy-to-use online database application.

The service provides immediate access to any single page across multiple companies and allows you to perform queries and download data into your own spreadsheet for analysis.

The technology also allows Energy Central to offer a variety of price levels and access levels to the application, from single-user 30-day research access to an unlimited group access package.

FERC requires major utilities to file an annual report detailing corporate, financial operations, plant, and transmission and distribution information. Companies required to file a FORM 1 have one million megawatt hours of total annual sales; 100 megawatt hours of annual sales for resale; 500 megawatt hours of gross interchange out; and 500 megawatt hours of wheeling for others (deliveries plus losses).

The Energy Central FERC FORM 1 database contains several features designed to make data available through FERC FORM 1 filings more accessible.

In earlier editions of the database, it was necessary to run multiple queries if you wanted an individual page for multiple organizations for multiple years. Now you can select the page, the organizations, and the desired years and retrieve all the data at once.

Also in previous editions of the database you could only export the results of research queries and not page queries. In this edition, you can export pages to text for additional manipulation in a word processor or spreadsheet. Previous versions also required users to run multiple queries on a specific data item if they wanted to compare the results across years. In this edition, you can select the data item, the organizations, and the desired years and retrieve all the data at once. The 2000 version also has a simplified interface, with additional screens and lists that allow you to quickly get to the data you need.

Energy Central also released last month version 2.0 of its Business Centers, which allows any vendor to the power industry to publish press releases, new product announcements, articles, white papers and special offers. The service is a categorized system of online business directories that allows vendors to showcase their products and services to a highly qualified and targeted audience of power industry professionals, said Steve Drazga, foun-der and CEO of the Denver, Co.-based Energy Central.

The interactive directory is designed to provide business customers with a convenient and efficient way to search for company and product information related to the global power industry, and bring buyers to vendors at the exact moment they are ready to purchase, Drazga said.

He said Energy Central’s combination of daily news, industry and government directories, events, databases, periodicals and reports has made it “one of the most popular sites for power industry professionals.”
