Eric Anderson is the only three-time winner of Providence Business News’ 40 Under Forty designation, and the reason is simple. Anderson doesn’t rest on his laurels.
When his father started a new business – Enviro-Clean Inc. – that remediates water-damaged buildings and gave Anderson its reins, “he provided for me an opportunity to sink, tread water or swim,” said Anderson in his 40 Under Forty application. And swim he did. The company now has more than 20 employees and recently opened an office in Sandwich, Mass., and is about to open an office in Norwich, Conn. He continues to grow his personal capabilities as well and expects to complete his MBA at Bryant University this summer.
Anderson attributes his company’s success to a combination of professional expertise – Anderson has made himself an expert on the subject of mold, mold remediation and indoor air quality solutions, giving lectures and testifying in court cases across southeastern New England – and attention to the emotional needs of his customers, who often are traumatized by the experiences that caused them to call Enviro-Clean in the first place. The result is not just competence, but a human touch.
That humanity can be seen in Anderson’s personal life as well. A Big Brother since his days at Tufts University – his little brother now attends Holy Cross University – Anderson has settled into a comfortable domestic life. He married his high school sweetheart, and they have a son, plus two dogs, a cat and a goldfish.
But it shouldn’t be surprising that he has made his family such a strong priority. His relationship with his father, Jack, is the most influential in his life. When Eric was looking for something more than the corporate world offered, his father did more than offer him the opportunity to run Enviro-Clean, something the younger Anderson has run with.
“Jack (as I now call my Dad) has shared with me his knowledge, experience and business principles that come from his 30 years in business,” said Eric in his application. And that tutelage “has been instrumental in my success.”
