NEWPORT — After reviewing the results of its service between Newport and Providence from June to October last year, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority decided to resume service last Monday, January 8. The Monday through Friday service offers three round-trips each day. RIPTA decided to eliminate the Portsmouth connection in the route for the time being because of lack of interest. That service averaged one customer per trip, RIPTA reported, while its Newport-Providence connection averaged 26 passengers.
