Gertrude F. Blakey has joined Lifespan as director of diversity. Her
mission is the build bridges between hospitals and the communities that surround
them. Blakey previously held the position of deputy director of Urban League,
R.I.’s largest organization advocating for diversity and for poor and disadvantaged
populations. She serves on the boards of Big Sisters of Rhode Island, National
Coalition of 100 Black Women, Common Cause for Rhode Island, and the Rhode Island
Audubon Society.
