PROVIDENCE – Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island announced it had become a Dell “Reconnect” site to recycle e-waste as of Jan. 14.
The agency, as the only Reconnect site in the state, expects to recycle between 300,000 to 400,000 pounds of e-waste annually and to create local green jobs.
Goodwill employees will manage the collection and disassembly of the equipment. Donated equipment that meets the quality criteria will be resold; devices in need of repair will either be refurbished or broken down into parts to be recycled.
“The program allows for the agency to expand and enhance its training programs so we can prepare trainees for high-wage, high-demand occupations in emerging industries while also supporting an ecofriendly, social purpose business line,” said Jeffrey Machado, Goodwill president and CEO.
Personal computers, monitors and other equipment – such as cords, printers and scanners – can be dropped off at the Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island’s corporate headquarters at 100 Houghton St., Providence.
