WEST GREENWICH – GTECH Holdings Corporation announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, GTECH Corporation, has received a two-year extension of its current contract to provide on-line lottery and support services to the Arizona Lottery. The contract extension will commence on Sept. 1, 2004.
Under the terms of the contract extension, GTECH will maintain the Arizona Lottery’s existing terminal base over 2,500 terminals. GTECH will continue to provide the Arizona Lottery with ongoing services, including operation and maintenance of central system hardware and software, software support, marketing support, field services, and hotline management. The company will continue to operate from a data center in Phoenix and anticipates generating revenue of approximately $14 million over the two-year extension period.
GTECH began providing online equipment and services for the Arizona Lottery in 1984. Since its inception in 1981, the Arizona Lottery has generated revenues of over $1.3 billion. Proceeds from the Arizona Lottery are earmarked for mass transit, country assistance, economic development, and the Arizona Clean Air Fund, among other purposes.

Treasurer names George
Carvalho chief of staff
PROVIDENCE – General Treasurer Paul J. Tavares announced that he has named George Carvalho of Pawtucket as his new chief of staff. Carvalho replaces Michael Mello who left the treasurer’s office to become chief of staff for Providence Mayor David N. Cicilline.
Carvalho, 38, a Rhode Island native, received a BA from Roger Williams University and his Juris Doctor from Michigan State University, Detroit College of Law. Prior to joining the General Treasurer’s staff four years ago as Deputy Treasurer/Chief Legal Counsel, Carvalho was a partner in the Rhode Island firm Procaccini & Carvalho. He was previously an associate with the law firm Delaney, Siegal & Zorn Associates in Boston. Carvalho is currently a member of the Pawtucket Board of Appeals which consists of the Zoning Board of Review, Tax Review Board, Housing Board, Building Code Board and Board of Appeals
