GTECH, partner win Taiwan lottery pact

WEST GREENWICH — GTECH Holding Corp. announced that it had won the contract to
set up and operate the national lottery in Taiwan through its joint venture partnership
with Acer Inc. of Taiwan. GTECH, a 44 percent partner in the venture called Lottery
Technology Services Corp., declined to release financial details of the five-
year contract. Acer, the majority stockholder, with 56 percent ownership, is a
Taiwan-based computer manufacturer. The Taiwanese government requires that a Taiwanese
company own and operate the national lottery. The joint venture partnership in
which GTECH is the minority stockholder fulfills that requirement.
