PROVIDENCE – GTECH Corp. was one of three companies that has submitted a cost proposal to continue running the Texas lottery, The Associated Press reported Tuesday.
The contract could be worth up to $100 million per year to the winning company. Cost proposals were due by Tuesday, and the bidders must submit technical proposals by Wednesday, the AP said.

GTECH, a subsidiary of Italy’s Lottomatica SpA, is currently in a 10-year contract with Texas, the AP reported. It is the only company that has ever operated Texas’ lottery system, having held the contract since March 1991.
GTECH faced controversy earlier this year when it was revealed that a consultancy to the Texas Gaming Commission, Gartner Inc., had also worked for GTECH. Jaymin B. Patel, president and CEO of GTECH, apologized to the Lone Star State and the commission ended its contract with the consultant.
Scientific Games Corp. and Intralot Inc. were the other two bidders for the Texas contract. According to the AP, the state expects to make a decision by late September.
