HOUSTON – Hallsmith-Sysco Food Services LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of SYSCO Corp., has acquired “certain assets” of New Bedford-based Luzo Foodservice Corp.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, the company said in a statement.
Founded in 1928, Luzo Foodservice distributes food and food-service supplies to customers in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Carl Ribeiro, third-generation president and CEO of Luzo, said in a statement that the purchase would allow the company to focus more on its cash and carry operations.
Hallsmith-Sysco was added to the SYSCO Corp. – which markets and distributed food-service products and supplies to Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire – in 1972.
Fleet begins $30 million financial education program
BOSTON – FleetBoston Financial has launched a $30 million “back-to-basics” financial education program that will help consumers make smarter financial decisions, the bank said in a statement.
The program, called Smarter Decisions with Fleet, includes a comprehensive 10-point plan, including a Web site (fleet.com/smarterdecisions), partnerships, workshops, a financial education teaching program and a Fleet mobile unit that will travel to different locations to give consumers educational materials.
The program is designed to address the need for financial education by providing information for consumers of all income and educational levels with back-to-basics financial strategies, the bank said.
