PROVIDENCE — Gov. Lincoln Almond has appointed Dr. Kathleen C. Hittner, president and chief executive officer of The Miriam Hospital, to the Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) board of directors.
Dr. Hittner received her medical degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine. She serves as a staff anesthesiologist at theThe Miriam Hospital, is a Clinical Professor of anesthesiology and serves as a didactic instructor for medical students at Brown University. Dr. Hittner received the Brown University School of Medicine Distinguished Teacher Award last May. Last year, she was named by Rhode Island Monthly as one of the state’s “Top Docs.” Dr. Hittner was the first woman president of the Rhode Island Medical Society.

Dr. Hittner will complete the term of Nita J. Shah who recently retired from the board, the governor’s office said. Her term will expire December 9, 2002.
