T.F. Green Airport’s new low-fare carrier, Independence Air,
announced that for the eighth consecutive year, the company is the recipient
of the Diamond Award, the highest honor in the Federal Aviation Administration’s
Aviation Technician Training Program.
The Dulles, Va.-based airline formerly known as Atlantic Coast Airlines breaks into 35 new markets this summer and starts service at Green Aug. 23.
The award was granted following an evaluation of the company’s maintenance and training programs measuring initial and recurrent maintenance and airworthiness training as well as the company’s regular participation in FAA-sponsored policy and regulation seminars.

The presentation was conducted by Nick Scarpinato, manager of the FAA’s Washington, D.C. Flight Standards District Office and Principal Maintenance Inspector Jeff Denny during a ceremony at Independence Air headquarters near Washington Dulles International Airport.
The Independence Air hub at Washington Dulles will offer more than 300 daily
departures by summer’s end, making it the largest low-fare hub in America in
terms of total departures.
