Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy (D-RI) will host a press conference today at noon at the Network Rhode Island One-Stop Job Center, 175 Main St., Pawtucket to outline his efforts in Congress to restore funding which the Bush Administration proposes to cut for several job-training programs.
In the budget which will be presented today to Congress, the White House is seeking $800 million in cuts to the U.S. Labor Department’s job training programs, including a 10 percent reduction in assistance to laid-off workers.

“These proposed cuts are the wrong budget priority at the wrong time,” said Kennedy. “There are more Rhode Islanders, not fewer, who need help upgrading their skills and getting back in the workforce. I will work with my Appropriations Committee colleagues to restore this funding that is so important to our economy and our workers.”
