FALL RIVER – Weaver’s Cove LLC, an investor group planning a liquefied natural gas import terminal in Fall River, rejected a request from the mayor to halt plans for the facility.
Fall River Mayor Edward Lambert earlier in March sent a letter to Gordon Shearer, Weaver’s Cove chief executive, asking him to withdraw his plan for the plant, saying the site is too close to residents to ensure their safety in the event of an accident or terror attack.

The plant, which will be located about 60 miles south of Boston, would have capacity to offload as much as 800 million cubic feet a day of the fuel, according to Weaver’s Cove, which is owned and run by Poten and Partners, a New York-based energy brokerage and consulting company.
“Without passing judgment on the need for additional natural gas facilities in this country, this location is absolutely the wrong site,” Lambert said in the letter. “Other
locations away from a congested, urban and residential neighborhood” would be better choices, he said.
Officials at Weaver’s Cove said their plan complies with safety codes that mandate how far fuel-filled tanks can be built from residential areas. The tank would fall within the exclusion zone, a 1,100-foot area around the tank that is considered unsafe in the event of an accident, said James Grasso, a Weaver’s Cove spokesman. (Bloomberg News)
Raytheon awarded U.S. Air Force broadcast contract
WALTHAM – The U.S. Air Force’s Electronic Systems Center at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts has awarded defense contractor Raytheon Company an “undefinitized contract action” worth $19.5 million.
Raytheon will design, assemble, integrate, test and deliver Global Broadcast Service receive suites that consist of either Air Force or 88XR Type-1 and Type-2, Internet protocol receive broadcast managers and next generation receive terminals, Raytheon said.
According to the company, Prototype 88XR receive broadcast managers will be designed to conduct environment qualification tests, ready integrated logistics support products and perform in the GBS developmental testing/operational testing.
