Local scouts honor Gilbane CEO

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. — The Narragansett Council of the Boy Scouts of America bestowed its John H. Chafee Distinguished Citizen Award on Paul Choquette, chairman and chief executive officer of Gilbane Building Company. Choquette, who joined the Boy Scouts in 1950 and who currently serves on both the Narragansett Council and National Executive Board, received the award at the council’s annual awards dinner last week.

“Paul has been a ‘Good Turn’ as a scout for more than 50 years,” said Robert H. Pease, Jr. president of the Narragansett Council. “As a member of one of Rhode Island’s most distinguished scouting families, he has dedicated himself to serving God, country and others.”

The council raised $270,000 to benefit Scout Reach, a program that brings scouting programs and values to inner city youth. Nearly 100 companies participated in the event, which was attended by 450 people.

“With the support of the business community, the Narragansett Council will be able to continue to bring its program into the neighborhoods that need it most,” said Dave Anderson, scout executive of the Narragansett Council.
