BankNewport President and CEO Thomas W. Kelly recently visited the summer day camp at All Saints Academy after the bank awarded a $5,000 grant to the Star Kids Scholarship Program. All Saints Academy is one of 18 organizations that partners with the Star Kids Scholarship Program to offer educational summer camps for children.
The grant helped support the 2010 Star Kids summer programs. These programs are designed to ensure that children don’t fall behind in learning during the summer, and include day camp at the Norman Bird Sanctuary, art programs at the Newport Art Museum, Girl Scout and Boy Scout camps and athletic camps provided by the Newport County YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs.
Star Kids was established in 2000 to support high-risk, low-income children living in Newport County, Fall River and New Bedford. The organization provides uniforms, tutoring, mentoring and afterschool and summer programs to eligible children, as well as tuition aid to attend effective nonpublic schools. &#8226
