Mass. gains 10,000 jobs in private sector from May to June

BOSTON – The state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said last week that preliminary June estimates show more than 3.2 million jobs in the state, an increase of 10,400 jobs.
Of those, 10,300 jobs were added in the private sector.
The total unemployment rate in June was unchanged at 7.6 percent, remaining well below the 9.2 percent national rate. Both the unemployment rate and the number of unemployed residents – 263,800 – are the lowest since February 2009.
According to a news release, manufacturing saw the largest monthly gain, with jobs in the industry up 2,900. Other sectors adding jobs included: construction; professional, scientific and business services; leisure and hospitality; financial activities; and educational and health services.
June’s gain follows a revised May monthly loss of 4,100 jobs statewide and a 1,300 job loss in the private sector. However, the office said that since March 2001, Massachusetts has added 26,600 jobs, with a gain of 30,300 jobs, &#8226
