Mayor rejects proposal to condemn station-district land

WARWICK – Mayor Scott Avedisian has rejected a proposal by Bullfinch Acquisition Corp. that the Warwick Station Development Agency seize property for the proposed 70-acre development through its powers of eminent domain. Asserting that it had been established from the outset that eminent domain would only be used to acquire property as a last resort, Avedisian said he did not believe that Bullfinch had exhausted the possibilities of negotiation to purchase the property needed for the development. He add, “I would encourage Bullfinch to make a wholehearted attempt to negotiate again with landowners before they move forward with this petition” (to seek the land-taking by condemnation).
