PROVIDENCE — Marlene McKenna of East Providence, who ran and lost in as a Democratic
candidate for state treasurer, pleaded guilty last week in U.S. District Court
to mail fraud, admitting she made unauthorized withdrawals from investment clients’
accounts, converting some $186,212 for her own use over four years. She remains
free on unsecured bond pending sentencing, which is scheduled for July 10. She
faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
