The Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership (RIMP) held its annual fundraising event, “Dancing with the Stars of Mentoring,” at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet with more than 500 people in attendance. The event paired local celebrities with professional dancers and instructors from the Dancin’ Feelin’ studio in Warwick for a dance competition. The evening brought in $56,000 through ticket sales and live and silent auctions.
“[T]he money raised, will help the Mentoring Partnership continue to improve and expand mentoring programs around the state,” said Arlene McNulty, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership.
The celebrity dancers who participated in the event were Serena Conley, license administrator for the city of Providence; Heather Gersten, the morning show co-host for WWLI-FM Lite Rock 105; Courtney Hunter, member relationship manager for the People’s Credit Union; Joe Kayata, sports anchor for WJAR-TV NBC 10; Miss Kitty Litter, a Providence-based entertainer; Sammy Morris, running back for the New England Patriots; and Ken Wild, state director for Rep. James Langevin.
The partnership serves as an umbrella organization for more than 40 mentoring programs around Rhode Island and is responsible for the coordination of the school-based mentoring programs in Warwick, Woonsocket and Newport. •
