TMP Worldwide Inc.’s Monster.com is being criticized for barring job
hunters from applying for work in countries that are under U.S.
sanctions and blocking the use of its services to residents of
those countries, the Wall Street Journal said.
Monster.com, the largest U.S. online job service, put the
policy in place yesterday after a routine compliance review, the
newspaper said, citing a Monster.com attorney. The company will
no longer advertise for jobs in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Cuba, Myanmar,
Libya, North Korea and Sudan, the Journal said.

More than 26 million resumes are posted on the Web site,
along with about 800,000 job postings, the Journal said. Because
of the change, several thousand people inside those countries
can’t access the Web site any more, and a “small number” of
jobs postings in those countries have been taken off the site,
Monster.com spokesman Kevin Mullins told the paper.
Some advocacy groups and executives born outside the U.S.
called the company’s policy overly harsh, the paper reported.
