PORTSMOUTH – MontegoNet completed its acquisition of CartenTech, a Rhode Island-based developer of self-service Internet Web phones and kiosk software. MontegoNet will assume all of the company’s assets and retain its staff as part of the agreement.
MontegoNet, an interactive kiosk solutions provider, offers a selection of standard and custom-designed interactive kiosks, kiosk software, application development and remote kiosk monitoring. The company plans to unveil its new products and services in April in Las Vegas at KioskCom 2004, the industry’s leading tradeshow.
“We’ve been in ‘stealth mode’ for the past year, developing new products and services that will help our customers generate true ROI for their self-service deployments,” MontegoNet President Thomas Smith said in a release. “This strategic acquisition will further enhance and accelerate our current plans.”

Swyx establishes U.S. headquarters at Slater Center
PROVIDENCE – Germany’s Swyx International announced in January the establishment of its headquarters in the Slater Center for Interactive Technologies in Davol Square. With more than 2,200 installations of its ultra-flexible voice-over Internet protocol PBX products throughout Europe, Swyx believes it is well-positioned to market aggressively its SwyxWare suite of products in the United States.
Swyx products allow customers to operate telephony solutions over their IP network. SwyxWare software works with (or in place of) an existing private branch exchange to identify callers and intelligently route and forward the calls to a connected computer or handset anywhere.
Started in Dortmund, Germany, Swyx has been a provider of VoIP solutions since 2000 and is a Microsoft-certified partner. The company has a total of 40 employees, seven who are operating out of Providence, and hopes to expand its American operations to more than 30 people.
