Gov. Carcieri appointed Beverly Najarian as director of the state’s Department of Administration. She is the first woman to hold the executive position, which is charged with overseeing statewide financial and personnel matters.
Among her duties is to move forward with ideas proposed in the “Fiscal Fitness” efficiency initiative, a project Najarian led. Carcieri credits the group with identifying “millions of dollars in potential taxpayer savings.”

The department also oversees the state budget office, properties committee, the registry of motor vehicles as well as the state’s personnel, purchasing and information technologies systems.
Najarian is a resident of West Greenwich and is a retired executive vice president for Old Stone Bank. She also serves as president of the Board of Cranston ARC, an agency serving adults and children with disabilities. She replaces DOA Director Robert Higgins who will conclude his one-year commitment to the Carcieri administration on Dec. 12.
