Newport County Chamber delegates take part in Business Leaders Day

Local business leaders form the Newport Chamber of Commerce will join state business leader to take part in Senator Jack Reed’s annual Business Leaders Day on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Town administrators from Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth will join the contingent to be briefed on issues including homeland security, workforce development, transportation and healthcare reform.

A delegation from Aquidneck Island will meet with senior officials from the US Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Administration to discuss community and economic development grant opportunities for Aquidneck Island.

On Thursday Chamber officials will join Senate Majority Leader Teresa Paiva Weed, House Majority Leader Gordon Fox and the RI congressional delegation for the final Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) report, which will be presented to President Bush.

The Newport County Chamber of Commerce is one of Rhode Island’s largest business advocacy organizations formed to enhance the business, civic and economic vitality of Newport County and greater Rhode Island.
