ITASCA, Ill. – OfficeMax Inc., an office supplies retailer, recently announced that it will close four stores in Massachusetts and one in Rhode Island.
The retailer’s Middletown store, at 379 West Main Road, will close by the end of the first quarter, as will Massachusetts stores in West Springfield, Saugus, Brockton and South Attleboro, at 1120 Newport Ave.

Ten other OfficeMax stores in Massachusetts will remain open. OfficeMax’s other store in Rhode Island, at 200 Hillside Road in Cranston, also will remain open.
The company announced in January that it plans to close 110 retail stores nationwide as part of an effort to improve financial performance. The company said it is looking to place store associates at other stores or other company facilities.
