ON Semiconductor announces layoffs

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. — ON Semiconductor Corp. has announced it plans to lay off
900 of its total of 13,000 employees worldwide, including about 100 in East Greenwich.
The company said it would close its East Greenwich facility, as well as one in
Phoenix, Ariz. From June 25 to July 7 and slash salaries 10 percent across the
board for U.S. employees, the Providence Journal reported. This is the latest
in a series of three cost-cutting moves by ON Semiconductor this year. The company
is based in Phoenix.
