Chad A. Verdi, of Providence’s Premium Poultry, has donated 22,000 pounds of food to the Rhode Island Food Bank. The donated chicken, frozen mashed potatoes, breakfast sausages, and fruit cups will help the food bank collect a targeted 200,000 pounds this summer, according to an organization statement released today.
The food bank said it has received 50,000 pounds of fare during its collection campaign. Still, the group’s overall shortage totaled some 600,000 pounds to start the summer, according to its Web site.

“The food bank is grateful for Mr. Verdi’s donation and generosity,” Bernie Beaudreau, the food bank’s executive director, said in a prepared statement. “This donation of high-quality food will help many struggling families enjoy a brighter summer.”
