Product: Scan Compare Utility – a companion utility for Fidelity’s TRACER 2000 analysis tool. Scan Compare is used to determine whether any changes to software, which is Y2K ready, might have affected the system’s Y2K readiness. The piece is being offered at no charge to TRACER 2000 customers, according to a statement issued by the company on March 15. The utility software works in conjunction with TRACER 2000 by analyzing the differences between date scans of two versions of the Y2K ready software. The differences are displayed visually then stored in the TRACER 2000’s data base repository to support analysis and remediation.

Product: Energy Smart – all three of the state’s commercial utility companies are offering this energy audit software, which can help residential customers assess their electricity use and minimize bills. And as an added incentive the companies are offering the software on CD-ROM free of charge. Energy Smart prompts users to answer questions about their home size, heating system, appliances, utility bills and energy use patterns, then generates a plan of low-cost and no-cost steps customers can take to reduce their energy consumption. It will also compare their energy use with homes of a similar size.
The energy audit process takes about one hour and does not have to be done in one sitting.
Users can also link to the utility companies Web sites and sites where they can purchase energy-efficient appliances and products. It is not necessary to have Internet access to use the energy audit software, however.
Energy Smart is offered on CD-ROM and runs on any home personal computer with a Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows 98 operating system.
