CBE Technologies, Inc. announced Tuesday the September 21 acquisition of NECR, a Providence-based information technology system integrator and services provider.

Also known as New England Computer Resources, NECR will be named CBE/NECR and become a branch office of CBE Technologies supporting and developing the Rhode Island and southeastern New England market.

The privately held firms did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition.

“NECR’s customers will work with the same committed NECR employees they know and trust for customer service and account management,” said NECR partner Shawn Fennell, who becomes CBE/NECR vice president, Rhode Island. “The biggest difference is we have a full complement of services, including voice over IP, CBE’s OneStop managed services, enhanced information security, and CBE’s 24 by 7 OneStop Support. With the unsurpassed technical expertise of CBE’s 120 engineers, our customer can get the most from their technology investments and focus on their core businesses.”

CBE Technologies chairman Peter Cowie said the purchase is important to CBE because NECR has built an excellent reputation for integrity and commitment to its customers over the past 13 years.

After 13 years at NECR, five years at NYNEX, and more than 15 years at IBM, NECR partner Vincent O’Grady elected to retire to pursue personal interests, the company announced.

The acquisition of NECR follows CBE Technologies’ July 30 purchase of FireTower, Inc., the Medfield, Massachusetts information security firm that now operates as a subsidiary of CBE.

Shawn Fennell and Vincent O’Grady founded New England Computer Resources (NECR) in 1991. The self-funded company’s business grew from selling computer supplies to repairing and integrating network systems for companies in Rhode Island including Southcoast Hospital Group, Pawtucket Credit Union, The Beacon Mutual Insurance, Care New England, Fall River Schools, AAI Foster Grant, Memorial Hospital, Fall River Five Cents Savings Bank, Milford National Bank, and The Moore Company.

CBE Technologies, based in Boston, offers a comprehensive suite of managed IT and telephony services. It has sales and services offices in Wilmington, Massachusetts; Stratham, New Hampshire; Hartford, Connecticut; New York City; Portland, Maine; and Providence.
