Providence College starts recruitment for next president

The Providence College board of trustees initiated a process to recruit and select the next president of the college. The term of the current president, the Rev. Philip A. Smith, will conclude on June 30, 2005.

A search committee has been established to find suitable candidates, who are required to be Dominican friars. The board of trustees will recommend a candidate from those presented to the 12-person Providence College Corporation, which makes the final appointment.

The search committee plans to announce its selection in conjunction with the regular meeting of the board of trustees scheduled in February 2005.

The term of the 12th president of Providence College would begin on July 1, 2005.

In other news, Providence College will open two new buildings: a suite-style residence hall and the Smith Center for the Arts, a performing arts venue named in honor of Smith.
