PROVIDENCE – Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Rhode Island increased by 294 on Monday, with no new deaths, the R.I. Department of Health said Tuesday.
Hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients in the state totaled 93, an increase from 75 one day prior. Of those hospitalized, 16 were in intensive care units and five were on ventilators.

The department said there have been 187.1 new cases per 100,00 residents in the previous seven days, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines as “high transmission.”
To date, there have been 671,199 individuals fully vaccinated against the virus in Rhode Island, as well as 1.36 million total COVID-19 vaccine doses administered.
There have been 158,614 confirmed cases of the virus in the state, a rise of 331 from figures reported Monday, accounting for the day-to-day increase as well as data revisions for previous days.
Deaths due to the virus in the state have totaled 2,747.
There were 8,131 tests processed in Rhode Island on Monday with an overall positive rate of 3.6%. When excluding both repeat positive and repeat negative test results, the positive rate was 18.6%.
There have been 4.73 million tests administered in the state to over 1 million individuals.
The department also released its three weekly COVID-19 metrics Tuesday, which have all worsened for at least four consecutive weeks.
- The positive rate last week was 3.6%, a rise from 3.3.% one week prior.
- New hospital admissions totaled 108 last week, a rise from 70 one week prior.
- New cases per 100,000 residents totaled 177 last week, a rise from 146 the week before.
