Major General Reginald Centracchio, director of the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency, announced that Rhode Island has begun to receive shipment of hazardous material (HAZMAT) equipment. The equipment is part of the $1.3 million Department of Justice grant and is designed for first responder use.
Included in the shipment are level A and B suits, detection equipment and test kits. It will be distributed to thode cities and towns with existing HAZMAT teams (Woonsocket, Providence, Cranston, Warwick, West Warwick and Hope Valley) and is intended to make up any shortages and insure that the teams are 100 percent capable.

The shipments represent 95 percent of the equipment ordered for this year at a cost of $200,000.
