The torch will make its way through Massachusetts and Rhode Island on Dec. 26 and 27 on its journey from Athens, Greece to Salt Lake City, for the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Hayward, a Seekonk, Mass. resident, will join a select group of 11,500 people chosen by the U.S. Olympic Organizing Committee to carry the Olympic Torch across the U.S.
“I am truly honored to be a part of this wonderful experience,” said Hayward. “The Olympics are special and to be chosen to help carry the flame – especially during this trying time – is something I will never forget.”
