PROVIDENCE – Kevin Dillon could stay on as head of the R.I. Airport Corporation through 2013, after the corporation’s board on Wednesday gave the go-ahead to the chairman to negotiate a new contract that would include a 10-month extension of his current deal.
“The extension hasn’t been executed yet, but it would make the contract a full three years,” Dillon told Providence Business News.

The RIAC president and CEO’s current contract runs from March 1, 2010 to Feb. 28, 2013; the new terms would start on Jan. 1, 2011 and end on Dec. 31, 2013.
Dillon was recently in the running for the executive director position at Tampa International Airport but withdrew his candidacy on Sept. 21, noting that “there are a number of initiatives that I have started here at T.F. Green Airport that I would like to see completed.”
Dillon said the timing of the recent withdrawal and the board’s decision were not related.
