PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Technology Council awarded the third grant received from the Verizon National Academy Foundation Technology fund to the Newport Area Career and Technical Center. The $9,390 grant is the second award the center has received through the foundation, bringing total received funds to $23,650.
The award is made possible through the Verizon Foundation’s $100,000 Educational Initiative Program and will be used to support the center’s Academy of Information Technology by providing computer hardware and software, professional-development training and a scholarship for a graduating senior. The academy is a four-year high school program that provides information technology education by incorporating hands-on learning with business partners, providing career awareness and internships for students.
TracVision A5 named 2004 Innovation Award honoree
MIDDLETOWN – Already recognized as the first and only low-profile satellite TV antenna available for use on passenger vehicles, the TracVision A5 from KVH Industries Inc. was recently honored by the Consumer Electronics Association.
The hybrid phased-array A5 antenna, which enables passenger vehicles to receive digital satellite TV programming, was recognized at the Innovations Design and Engineering Awards as one of the most innovative consumer electronics products of the year. The A5, with more than two years of research and development, employs an antenna that uses 260 individual elements to provide reception of satellite TV services as the vehicle travels throughout the continental United States. The antenna is contained within a 5-inch high enclosure that mounts to the vehicle’s roof rack and supports virtually all factory-installed and after market in-vehicle video systems. TracVision A5 has reached retailers nationwide.
