State to get $2.7 million from justice program

WASHINGTON, D.C.– The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs has
awarded Rhode Island $2.78 million to improve criminal justice systems in the
state and help community safety programs. The award comes from the Edward Byrne
Memorial State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance Program. The program is aimed
at controlling drug-related crimes, violent crimes and serious offenders. It will
be administered by the Rhode Island Governor’s Justice Commission. The office
of Sen. Jack Reed made announcement of the program.
