National studies have painted a dismal picture of giving in Rhode Island, according to the Rhode Island Foundation. This is not the case according to a new study, A Closer Look at New England Giving.
According to the study, 82 percent of New Englanders give to charity versus versus 67 percent nationally. New Englanders give 38 percent more to secular causes than the national average, the study reported.
The study, commissioned by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University and funded by philanthropic organizations in each of the six New England states – including The Rhode Island Foundation – also offers insight on giving by type of organization and factors that affect giving
