Sycamore sales quintuple

CHELMSFORD, Mass. — Sycamore Networks Inc., a maker of fiber-optic equipment,
had fiscal second- quarter net income of $13.8 million as sales more than quintupled,
topping estimates. Net was 5 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier loss
of $5 million, or 3 cents. Sycamore said in a statement that it would have earned
$18.1 million, or 6 cents a share, excluding stock- compensation costs. On that
basis, the company was expected to earn 5 cents a share, the average estimate
in a First Call/Thomson Financial poll of analysts.
