Terrorist attack update – Rhode Island impact

* Hasbro officials in Pawtucket shut down the company’s facilities at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. A company spokesman said they wanted employees to be home with their children when the kids got home from school.
* Rhode Island’s FM Global reported that four or five employees were scheduled to have a meeting at the World Trade Center on Tuesday, though the company did not identify them or report on their status as of late in the afternoon.

* A. Kathryn Power, director of the state Department of Mental Health, Retardation and Hospitals has issued an emergency bulletin notifying the citizens of Rhode Island that a state-wide community support system is available for anyone dealing with the emotional repercussions from today’s tragedies. The state’s eight community mental health centers have been put on alert to assist people who are directly or indirectly affected as a result of the terrorist attacks. “I am especially concerned that the dramatic media coverage can be very disturbing to children and individuals with previous experiences with trauma,” she said. “I urge parents to discuss today’s events with their children and attempt to deal with their sense of vulnerability and real fear.”
* Providence brokerage offices closed this morning after stock trading was cancelled this morning.
* U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee released the following statement: “First and foremost, I want to extend my deepest sympathy to the families of those who perished at the hands of terrorists who committed these horrific acts of violence. It is incmprehensible that any human soul can possess such depravity.”
