PROVIDENCE – A unit of Textron Inc. subsidiary Textron Systems announced Monday that it had landed a $39 million contract to supply additional unmanned aircraft to the U.S. Army and Marine Corps.
Hunt Valley, Md.-based AAI Corp. said it would deliver two Shadow Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems (TUAS) to the Army and one to the Marine Corps. Each system includes four Shadow aircraft; two One System ground control stations and ground data terminals; four One System Remote Video Terminals, or OSRVTs; a One System portable ground control station; and associated components and support equipment.

The company says it has delivered 91 Shadow systems to date and currently has deliveries lined up through March 2011.
“With so many Shadow systems in the field and more than 460,000 flight hours amassed, we’re witnessing an incredible evolution in mission capabilities,” AAI Vice President of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Steven Reid in a statement. “Our goal has been to continuously enhance the military utility of the aircraft, our ground control technologies and system ancillaries. As a result, we’ve seen mission profiles extend beyond reconnaissance and surveillance to target acquisition, intelligence-gathering and communications relay.”
Textron acquired AAI in 2007 when it paid $1.1 billion to buy its parent company, United Industrial Corp.
