Eight daily nonstop flights will be offered to Washington Dulles International Airport, with connections to 23 cities available.
“We are servicing mostly the East Coast right now, and we try to keep all of our flights under two hours,” said Independence spokeswoman Valerie Wunder. “We chose Providence because we want to bring that market to Dulles.”
Fares to Washington range from $59 one-way up to $124. All flights are now available for sale on the Independence Air Web site at FLYi.com. All fares are sold one-way and seat assignments can be reserved at the time of booking.
Flights from Providence to Washington will be aboard newly upgraded 50-seat iJETs. The small planes – with leather seats – allow for fast boarding and deplaning, the company said.
In addition to nonstop service from Providence to Washington, Independence Air will offer a schedule of one-stop connections to 23 destinations, including Atlanta; Buffalo; Charleston, S.C.; Charleston, W.Va.; Chicago; Cleveland; Columbia, S.C.; Columbus, Ohio; Dayton; Detroit; Greensboro, N.C.; Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C.; Indianapolis; Jacksonville; Knoxville; Louisville; Lansing; Nashville; Norfolk; Pittsburgh; Raleigh-Durham; Rochester, N.Y.; and Savannah.
Independence Air will also begin adding 27 brand-new 132-passenger Airbus A319s in November at Washington Dulles – bringing its total fleet to more than 110 jet aircraft. The airbuses will fly from Washington to Florida, the Midwest and across the country to the West Coast.
Independence Air plans to add live satellite television in the back of every seat of its Airbus A319s this winter.
Parent company Atlantic Coast Airlines Holdings Inc. employs more than 4,100
aviation professionals. Later this year, the company plans to change its name
to FLYi Inc. and its ticker symbol to FLYI.
