PROVIDENCE — The Samuel Slater Technology Fund recently honored three people and two local businesses at its Slater Interactions networking event.
William Jackson, president of the Brown University Research Foundation, received the Lifetime Achievement award for his years of dedication in technology commercialization and support for the technology community. Jackson, who sits on the boards of Slater Interactive and the Slater Center for Biomedical Technology, is retiring from his post as president of the foundation. He helped launch the Rhode Island Center for Cellular Medicine, which is now the Slater Center for Biomedical Technology.
Richard Nadolink, chief technology officer and director of research and development at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, received the Distinguished Service award for his efforts in providing NUWC resources to Slater entrepreneurs.
Other award winners include WhyData, a Providence-based startup located in the Slater Interactive incubator. WhyData received the Rhode Islander award.
The Silver Slugger award went to C360, also a Providence-based company housed in the Slater Interactive incubator.
Dan Lowe, chief executive at TAZZ Networks Inc., won the Founder’s award.
GTECH chosen one of the best places to work in technology
WEST GREENWICH — GTECH Holdings Corp., was ranked 76th out of the best 100 information technology companies in ComputerWorld’s 10th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey.
“We are honored to be recognized by Computerworld as one of the best workplaces for IT professionals,” said Bruce Turner, GTECH’s president and CEO.
The lottery giant also ranked among the top 50 companies in seven of the 11 categories. The company ranked 18th in the survey’s Training Days per IT employee category.
The news comes the same week that GTECH announced that it was selected to negotiate a five-year contract with the Lottery Division of the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
If GTECH’s proposal is accepted, GTECH will provide the system with its Internet Protocol (IP) technology, terminal equipment and will replace the existing communications network with an IP-based wireless communication system.
