Tim Hortons opens first area store today

Canadian-based restaurant chain Tim Hortons, which recently bought Westerly-based Bess Eaton, opened its first fully converted store in southern New England today.

The store opening was at 25 West Broad St. in Pawcatuck, Conn., near Westerly, at 6 a.m. The store, fully renovated into the Tim Hortons style, will have a full menu including coffee, baked goods and lunch.

The first 200 customers win doughnuts for a year; also Boston Bruins alumni Gerry Cheevers and Gary Doak will sign autographs. There will also be prize giveaways and product sampling throughout the day.
