Framingham, Mass.-based TJX Companies Inc. reported that sales for April were up 14 percent from the same period last year. For the year, sales were up 18 percent.
Sales for the four weeks ended May 1 were $1.093 billion, compared to $956 million for April 2003, the company said.
TJX expects to achieve first quarter earnings that are slightly higher than first predicted, said Edmond English, president and CEO. The TJX Companies, Inc. operates 753 T.J. Maxx, 679 Marshalls, 185 HomeGoods, and 102 A.J. Wright stores, as well as 31 Bob’s Stores, in the United States.
