The union representing 500 workers at The Providence Journal will hold a rally to protest what they say are two years of illegal and anti-union tactics, according to a press release from the Providence Newspaper Guild.
The rally will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 20 in front of the Providence Journal’s offices at 75 Fountain Street.

The Providence Newspaper Guild stated that The Providence Journal faces 47 charges brought by the National Labor Relations Board. The charges are scheduled to be aired before a National Labor Relations Board administrative law judge on February 25, 2002.
According to the Newspaper Guild, among the charges being brought against The Journal are forcing the Newspaper Guild to use costlier, less flexible medical insurance; the elimination of one paid holiday; intimidation of employees who have spoken on behalf of the Guild; and extending the period employees must wait to qualify for extra vacation weeks.
