U.S. economy: retailers sales rose 0.3 percent in February

U.S. retail sales rose less than expected in February, suggesting consumers took a breather after spending in the fourth quarter at the fastest pace in 3 1/2 years.

The 0.3 percent gain reported by the Commerce Department was less than the 1 percent increase forecast by analysts. In January, sales fell 0.3 percent, led by a drop in automobile sales.
