Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world’s
largest retailer, said sales so far this month have met its
forecast for a gain of as much as 5 percent at stores open at
least a year, boosted by food and car supplies.
Bentonville Ark.-based Wal-Mart had forecast a November
same-store sales increase of 3 percent to 5 percent.

Shoppers bought more groceries, automotive products and cold
medicine in the week ended Nov.7. Sales picked up toward the end
of the week as the weather turned colder and customers bought
products to prepare their cars and gardens for winter weather,
spokeswoman Sharon Weber said. November is the first month of the
key holiday-shopping season.
