Web sales expected to double over six years

U.S. retail sales on the Internet
will more than double over the next six years as four out of 10
U.S. households make online purchases, Forrester Research reports.

Online retail sales in 2010 will represent 12 percent of all
retail purchases,

Sales will rise to $316.1 billion from this year’s estimated
$144.6 billion – a 14 percent annual gain, Bloomberg News reports.

The number of U.S. homes shopping on the Web will increase
to more than 44.7 million from 36.8 million this year, Forrester
said. Faster Internet connections and
in-store pickup of online
orders will spur the growth, Forrester said.
